Job overview

The StaffBank for Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust are seeking enthusiastic Band 6 Paediatric Occupational Therapists to join The Children Therapies team at Green Wrythe Lane clinic .

The trust are considering both P/T applicants at 22.5 hours per week 8am – 4pm with a 30 min break & F/T applicants 37.5 hours per weekÌý 8am-4pm with a 30 minute break.

The postholder will provide an Occupational Therapy service for children who experience difficulties in their functional abilities or skills development in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure in accordance with the service level agreement for Sutton Health & Care Community Services.

They will contribute to the development of the Occupational Therapy service for children. ÌýThey will plan and provide specialist Occupational Therapy assessment, advice and treatment for children with functional difficulties, working closely with the multidisciplinary team, school staff and families. ÌýThey will work autonomously and without direct supervision in a defined clinical area, and will be accountable for their own clinical actions.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Responsibilities

· To provide a specialist paediatric Occupational Therapy service to a defined caseload

· To be responsible for a clinical caseload of children with a Sutton GP or an Education Health and Care Plan as commissioned by the London Borough of Sutton and Health Commissioners

· To use standardised and non standardised assessment, interview and observation skills to determine needs of children and effectively set goals and plan intervention

· To be responsible for a defined caseload ensuring time management to enable effective service provision.

· To carry out complex assessments and interpret a range of factors relating to the child’s condition, including implications for access to education, functional skills at home and the wider community

· To contribute to the development of material that enables clients to understand and self manage their condition whenever possible, and supports continuation of programmes in the child’s environment (home, school, community)

· To recommend, provide or advise on provision of equipment and take responsibility for demonstrating and training clients / carers in its usage.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

·ÌýÌýÌýÌý To undertake risk assessments in complex moving and handling situations where appropriate.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌý To have a full understanding of the workings of any equipment and ensure regular checks are completed to maintain safety

·ÌýÌýÌýÌý To communicate complex assessment findings and treatment plans with service users dealing sensitively with distressing or emotional circumstances and being realistic about service users’ and families’ expectations.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌý To provide written, typed and / or verbal reports to referrers and other agencies involved in clients’ care and keep accurate up-to-date records.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌý To monitor the effectiveness of intervention through goal setting, outcome measurement and evaluation of practice and communicate this information to relevant parties.

·ÌýÌýÌýÌý To liaise and establish communication networks with the multi-disciplinary team and external voluntary and statutory organisations as appropriate in planning for each child’s treatment.

Essential criteria
  • Diploma in Occupational Therapy
  • HCPC
  • EXPERIENCE IN PAEDIATRICS OT
  • EXPERIENCE IN COMMUNITY
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant post-registration specialist education – ideally sensory integration training levels 1 and 2
  • Fieldwork educator course
  • Evidence of attendance at training in the area of assessment and treatment of children with functional needs
