Our Adult Inpatient Ward areas for surgical specialities are now recruiting healthcare support workers to be based at St Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey.Ìý

Working in a ward-based area in the hospital means you will need to be able to work various shifts over a 24-hour period. Shifts include long days, nights, weekends, and public holidays.Ìý

As a HCSW you will be working alongside the nursing teams providing fundamental care to patients at the bedside. This will include supporting patients with washing & dressing, assisting patients with eating & drinking and helping patients to mobilise.Ìý

We are looking for people with a kind, caring and compassionate nature. You must have good communication skills and have competent IT skills. Applicants must be able to demonstrate their suitability for this role. Please note this role is not eligible for sponsorship.Ìý

Main duties of the job

Our Healthcare Support Workers are at the heart of providing direct patient centred care, supporting the Registered Nurses and Nursing Associates as well as the wider Multi-Disciplinary Teams.Ìý

The role is varied, equally challenging and rewarding, where you will have the opportunity to really make a difference to the experience of our patients. This could be by supporting patients in their rehabilitation and recovery following an operation or a period of acute illness, caring for patients upon admission to hospital in a fast-paced environment supporting the medical and nursing teams or providing holistic and compassionate care for our more vulnerable patients or those at the end of their life.Ìý

The main aspects of this role are to provide fundamental care at the patient’s bedside, delivering high quality hands on care, supporting patients with their personal care, mobilising and eating and drinking.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Working as a Healthcare Support Worker in a ward / department within the hospital setting.

Carry out assigned tasks involved with direct patient care whilst maintaining the privacy and dignity of patients.Ìý This will be whilst demonstrating excellent care, compassion and communication, and in support of and supervised by a Registered Nurse or Nursing Associate, incorporating:

  • Supporting patients with their continence needs
  • Meeting patients’ nutrition & hydration needs. Including serving meals and helping patients to eat
  • Supporting patients with their personal care
  • Moving & Handling of patients to support independence
  • Maintaining a clean environment and ensuring infection prevention and control
  • Safeguarding of adults and children
  • Making beds
  • Supporting patients with communication
