This is an exciting time to join the Cardiology Department at Epsom and St. Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust.
The Cardiology Investigations Unit offers a full range of Non-invasive Cardiology investigations, pacemaker implants, echocardiography and a catheter lab. The unit is undergoing expansion with the development of new services, along with the addition of more Consultant Cardiologists.Ìý
The Department currently supports 9 Cardiologists across the 2 sites.
We are seeking a Cardiographer to join our busy team. The post will be based with working cross-site as required.
Main duties of the job
Cardiographers are vital to the work of the Cardiology Investigations Department, working alongside Cardiac Physiologists, Ìýperforming ECG’s (recording of the heart rhythm), fitting 24hr heart rhythm and blood pressure monitors and 7 day monitors on outpatients and on the wards, and assisting with exercise tests. Cardiographers also provide administrative support to our admin team. Experience of working with computers is an advantage.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To undertake the recording and interpretation of electrocardiograms (ECGs), within the department and throughout the hospital as required, under supervision, and independently after a suitable course of training, which will be provided.
The postholder will undertake a competency-based training and assessment program within the department for ECG and be able to demonstrate recognition of the main cardiac arrhythmias and basic electrocardiography instrumentation and troubleshooting technical faults.
To provide explanation and reassurance to patients undergoing routine non-invasive cardiac investigations and to assist patients with dressing and undressing.
To fit and remove ECG ambulatory ECG monitors and event recorders after appropriate training and assessment.
To fit and upload/download event recorders after appropriate training and assessment.
To undertake preventative maintenance of ECG and ambulatory ECG recorders and exercise testing equipment.
To work under supervision with a team of Cardiographers, Senior Cardiographers and Cardiac Physiologists

Essential criteria
- GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English
Desirable criteria
- SCST Certificate
Experience

- Work experience which involves contact with the general public.
- Basic computer literacy

- Previous NHS experience
Knowledge and skills
Essential criteria
- A commitment to obtain and qualify in the Certificate of Electrocardiography to SCST standards
- An awareness of own limitations and when to seek advice from senior colleagues

- Performing ECG to SCST standards
