Main duties of the job

To work as part of a team of nurses and health care assistants and be responsible for the assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating of nursing care. To offer safe care in accordance with up to date local and national guidelines.Ìý

The emergency department look after a wide variety of patients with various illness and injuries from cardiac arrests, traumas, acutely unwell medical and surgical patients to minor injuries and illnesses.Ìý

For newly qualified nurses our Emergency Department is an ideal environment to underpin and put into practice their knowledge and skills. For our nursing colleagues who already have some experience in acute nursing ED can provide an environment in which to develop. ÌýWe are well supported by our practice development team with opportunities for to gain experience in emergency care skills such as suturing and plastering and other training along with further education at our local universities.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
Desirable criteria
  • Mentor /Preceptor course
  • Module in emergency care nursing

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Post qualification experience in an acute setting
  • Evidence of dealing with difficult situations in an appropriate manner
Desirable criteria
  • Emergency nursing experience

Skills & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to manage time effectively and prioritise workload
  • Ability to care for a group of patients using an A to E assessment framework, able to escalate concerns
  • Ability to organise, along with good communication skills, both written and oral
  • IT literate- used to working with EPR
  • Up to date with local and national guidelines and best practice

Special Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Able to work flexible shifts weekends and bank holidays as required
