Job overview

The post holder will be responsible for promoting and monitoring of "Family Centred Care" within the maternity services and ensuring service delivery is in line with strategic vision for perinatal services in Wales.Ìý Acting as the lead specialist in family experience and engagement, for maternity services, they will be responsible for driving improvement and the organisational listening capacity vital for governance and assurance of service.Ìý Working collaboratively with senior members of the maternity team to develop tangible deliverables against the strategic objectives and key performance indicators

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist advise to the Head of Midwifery and Clinical Leads around issues pertaining to the remit of the post and contribute towards a robust Quality Management System with family experience at its centre.Ìý Monitoring mothers and their families experience via a variety of methodologies and engagement strategies.Ìý

ÌýAct as a professional role model to support engagement with mothers and families providing direct and indirect clinical care.

ÌýDevelop training and education workshops acting as an expert resource for staff

Providing practical advice and solutions to complex/sensitive challenges.

ÌýContribute and lead on research developments in family experience and engagement and ensuring the Health Boards commitment to the Equality, Diversity and Inclusitivity Agenda is met as detailed throughout the organisational strategy.Ìý Thematically evaluate feedback via varous sources and escalate early warnings where quality indicators are breeched.Ìý This will include the management of complex data, the development reports and improvement planning.

ÌýProvide training for maternity staff on the mandatory and professionals skills days and contributing to the updating of staff on themes identified through the findings of national reports, patient stories, debriefing sessions, complaints, complements and Health Board social media platforms

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered Midwife
  • Master degree in health related subject
  • Comprehensive post registration midwifery experience
  • Evidence of continuing practice development
  • Up to date knowledge of the main strategic challenges facing the maternity services in Wales in relation to good health and wellbeing
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of the All Wales Maternity Vision, Health Board's Strategic Equality Plan

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Registered midwife with substantial post registration experience and worked in all maternity settings
  • Experience of monitoring and developing staff. Experienced as working as mentor/coach/practice assessor/supervisor, having responsibility of a ward or department
  • Has excellent IT skills to produce multistranded reports
  • Evidence of ability to make changes within the clinical environment
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of audit and policy

Aptitude and Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Adhere to and can demonstrate SBU values and behaviours
  • Able to communicate clearly with patients and the multidisciplinary team in English. Effective communicator with good leadership and interpersonal skills. Highly motivated and ability to motivate others to deliver a high standard of evidence based individual client care
  • Demonstrate effective leadership and management skills
  • Able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy when working with others
  • Ability to resolve conflict in a nonconfrontational manner
  • Ability to undertake presentations to large groups and MDT team
Desirable criteria
  • Welsh Language skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh
