We have an exciting opportunity to join the friendly, highly motivated Coventry Community Dental Service (CCDS) based in the City of Coventry Health Centre, working across Coventry & Warwickshire. We require an enthusiastic and conscientious clinician to join our professional and supportive team of Dentists, Dental Therapists and Dental Nurses to provide patient focused community dentistry for people with more complex needs and conditions. ÌýThe service also comprises an Oral Health Improvement team, a domiciliary service and provides regular GA sessions at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire.
Main duties of the job
The challenging and rewarding work of community dentistry spans a wide range of services in which there will be ample opportunity for involvement, providing opportunities to practice all clinical facets of special care and paediatric dentistry, including provision of treatment under sedation in primary care and general anaesthesia in the hospital theatre setting.
We have a substantive post based on 37.5 hours working week - this is expected to comprise a majority clinical caseload dedicated to providing high quality specialised dental care in a compassionate environment to patients who may exhibit learning difficulties, phobias and challenging behaviour.Ìý

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide and evaluate specialised treatment services for adults and children with additional needs within the clinic and domiciliary setting in line with the competencies of a Band A dentist.
- Providing treatment under general anaesthesia for special needs patients, and routine paediatric dental extractions. This will involve contribution towards and participation in, best interest meetings. A thorough understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and relevant guidelines on the provision of dental care under general anaesthesia.
- Provide treatment under sedation where appropriate.
- Undertake appropriate CPD to keep up to date with developments in dentistry and maintain GDC requirements and to assist in staff development in relation to the job purpose.
- Be responsible for relevant assessment and advice where necessary for school children with developmental difficulties.
- Contribute to the provision, monitoring and evaluation of the different service elements:

- Work on a multidisciplinary basis with all other services within CWPT in provision of co-ordinated care for patients with special needs.
- Liaise with all branches of the profession, other health professionals, education and social services and voluntary agencies over the dental needs and service provision for people with special needs.Ìý
- Work closely with the CDS Oral Health Improvement Service in the provision of services to priority groups and increasing awareness of the requirements of special needs patients in terms of oral health.
- Undertake and participate in clinical audit.
- Undertake the normal duties expected of all dental officers.Ìý
- Work to NHS dental regulations and procedures involved with the administration and collection of patient charges and the submission of patient information to the Business Services Authority.
- Work within the policies and procedures of GEH and CDS
- Ensure the provision of integrated pathways for patients accessing CDS by developing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Direct the workload of Dental Therapists and Hygienists and provide them with relevant support and training, including personal development and effective appraisals.
- Contribute to the continued improvement in health, safety and security by sharing learning from incidents and implementing and reviewing appropriate action plans.
- Promote a culture where staff feel empowered and accountable for service improvement at local level.
