Job overview

Band 6 Deputy Manager to support the operational Manager and deputise in herÌý absence. The postÌý Involves working with the staff team andÌý the successful candidate will have access to staff rostering, supervise staffÌý and complete 1:1 supervisions and assisting to maintain a healthy budget position.Ìý To assist in achieving KPI targets and complete audits and monitor completion by ward staff.Ìý

Main duties of the job

The post holder is accountable for supporting the Unit Manager and the clinical leadÌý in the provision of care over a twenty-four hour period; they will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team . At all times acknowledging and respecting the individual rights of people with learning disabilities and / or mental health difficulties.

Working for our organisation

The unit has 13 beds for men with a learning disability who have may have offended and require treatment in hospital, the patients may have transitioned down from our medium secure unit or come into hospital directly from the community. The focus of the Unit is to provide patients with treatment and learning opportunities which will minimize the impact of their learning disability and other diagnosis. The treatment will address their offending behaviour, through recognizing and managing their own risks and equip them with meaningful skills for future life. This will be achieved through providing a therapeutic environment and treatment which fosters trust and encourages self-esteem. A stable skilled team and a defined treatment pathway are essential in achieving these aims.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will be mainly operational but will still have someÌý clinical work and potentially will still be named nurse to a patient to maintain and develop clinical knowledge.

ÌýTo deputise for the Unit Manager in all aspects of the job role during their absence.

ÌýTo contribute to the provision of an on call / bleep holder rota for the Brooklands site.

ÌýOversee the role of the named nurse to identified service users ensuring comprehensive person centred treatment packages are in place.

Ensure that dignity, choice, respect, independence and the rights of the people with learning disabilities and / or mental health difficulties areÌý Ìý Ìýmaintained at all times.

Ensure the safety of service users at all times whilst at the same time promoting positive risk taking

Ensure service users are central to and involved in all aspects of their care.

Monitor and review care packages and make appropriate changesÌý

Manage staff in line with Trust polices and procedures

ÌýSupport the nurse in charge in the delegation of duties

ÌýEnsure continued personal development of self and staff team.

ÌýWork in partnership with other agencies and organisations

ÌýHave an awareness of national and local policy and the implications for service delivery

ÌýParticipate in the monitoring and maintenance of standards in accordance with Trust and Unit polices and procedures, and Nursing professional standards

ÌýBe conversant with legal requirements as laid down by the Mental health act/Mental Capacity Act ensuring practice is within a legal framework

ÌýInform the Unit manager of professional concerns and promote professional evidenced based practice at all times

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Learning Disability Nursing qualification
  • Must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council
  • Must have or be willing to work towards a recognised management qualification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • A range of experience of working with people with learning disabilities and / or mental health difficulties
  • Demonstrates the ability to manage staff on a daily basis and through performance management.
