Probationary Period
All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working
All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) service within the Gastroenterology Department at Warwick Hospital. We are looking to recruit a qualified ACP with experience in Gastroenterology & Hepatology to join the Gastroenterology Department at South Warwickshire University Foundation Trust (SWUFT). The Trust already has many advanced and non-medical practitioners working within Medicine and Surgery.
This is the first ACP recruitment to the Gastroenterology & Hepatology services. The ACP is expected to support in-reach service, outpatient clinics, ambulatory care, develop specialty-specific procedural skills, and lead on service development projects.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Employed as an established ACP, delivering patient-centred care with a high degree of autonomy, independent assessment and clinical decision-making, practicing in line with the Health Education England’s (HEE) Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice (or other recognised service specific credential), their primary professional regulatory body standards and own scope of practice for the service/patient population. Fulfil the expectations and core capabilities of an ACP as set out in the HEE Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice in England (or other recognised service specific credential), delivering clinical practice across the four pillars of advanced practice, with commitment to a culture of life-long learning and continuous professional development, through engagement with clinical supervision and maintenance of an advanced practice professional portfolio.Ìý Work in partnership with patients, families and members of the multidisciplinary team, to best meet the needs and wellbeing of the patient, delivering high quality evidence-based Gastroenterology & Hepatology care. The ACP will exercise advanced clinical skills, levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making in Gastroenterology & Hepatology, demonstrated through, and supported by a professional portfolio of evidence.Ìý Clinical duties include a combination of inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory, consultations. These will be tailored to the ACP’s experience and skillset with support from the Consultant body. These will include but not limited to:Ìý reviewing inpatient referrals and providing ward support undertaking clinics (e.g. Hepatology, IBD, Post-discharge) reviewing ambulatory Hepatology, IBD, and UGI cancer patients in Medical Day Case Unit (MDCU) performing procedural skills e.g. ascitic drain attending multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings Ìý Weekend and out-of-hours work are currently not expected but may form part of the job plan in the future with the expansion of ACP workforce. The exact arrangements will be in consultation with the post-holder. The postholder will be expected to contribute significantly to clinical governance, audit, research, training and education, providing leadership to the department in one or more of these areas. Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Healthcare Professional (NMC, HCPC or GPhC)
- First level degree (HEI Level 5 or 6) or equivalent, in undergraduate base profession
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent - in relevant Advanced Practice field
- Independent Prescriber
- Evidence of CPD relevant to specialty and Advancing practice
- Teaching and assessing qualification
Desirable criteria
- Mentoring, Facilitating Workplace Learning or Clinical Supervision Qualification.
- Leadership course or qualification
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) provider
- Specialist qualification relevant to Gastroenterology / Hepatology
Experience
Essential criteria
- Prior experience and expertise in Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Band 7 or above
- Excellent clinical acumen and practical procedural skills (with evidence of competency and capability) as an independent practitioner, as per Job Description for role
Desirable criteria
- Experience of service development /change management
- Existing technical clinical procedural skills relevant to Gastroenterology & Hepatology
- Experience of writing for publication and/or conference presentations

- Knowledge of diseases prevalent in Gastroenterology / Hepatology and their management.
- Knowledge of prescribing considerations in Gastroenterology / Hepatology.
- Proven evidence of management ability and clinical leadership.
- Knowledge of clinical governance issues and measures of quality.
- Commitment to CPD practices for own development, and the development and support of others
- Commitment to evidencing own professional development, capabilities and competency development via work-based assessments and use of a portfolio.

- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, which may include days/weekends or nights, as required to fulfil the ACP role, and dependent on service needs.
- Evidence of effective team working and team leadership (when required) as part of a multidisciplinary professional team.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office packages.

- Ability to work with a high level of attention to detail, supporting ability to deliver service measurement and improvement
