Job overview

Are you keen for a new challenge? To be part of setting up an excitingÌý development of an enhanced crisis / intensive home treatment service? Do you have experience of working in mental health teams in the community?

If so, we are seeking to recruit a new workforce of senior support workers. Working as part of a team, as well, as autonomously you will be key in the delivery of interventions to young people accessing CAMHS Acute care.

The aim of the service is to provide time limited, interventions to manage a period of 'crisis' or interventions as an alternative to admission to support the local network around the young person (aged 12-18) whilst they are in the acute stage of mental health difficulties.Ìý You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside nursing, psychiatry, psychologists, family therapy, social worker and mental health practitioners.

The Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT-2022) report highlights the 'importance of ensuring young people receive the right treatment close to home and make sure that their family, social and educational networks do not break down'. Through this 7 day a week service will wish to assess, formulate, plan and deliver interventions to stabilise, reduce risk and support recovery while transition to the community services.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary Crisis and intensive home treatment team. The focus aims to prevent hospital admissions when clinically appropriate, to facilitate supported discharges from hospital and offer intensive treatment in the community.Ìý

Ìý

The post holder with have specific responsibilities and work across undertaking a range of delegated duties in the community or visiting young people on an inpatient ward. The role will include evaluation and communication of clinical information with a range teams and the Trust to ensure patient centered care is provided at all times.

The post holder will be involved in direct and indirect care to young people & families under minimal supervision and as directed by the Shift Coordinator, qualified staff and/or Team Leader. The role will include assisting in reviews of service users in the community; contributing to the assessment of their needs and ensure care plans are fully implemented. Personal development planning and targeted training will support the need to work autonomously, under the supervision of a competent practitioner.

Driving is an essential component of the role and a full clean driving licence is a requirement for the postholder.Ìý

Essential

Essential criteria
  • Health related qualification E.g. NVQ /QCF Level 3 or above in Health & Social Care.
  • Relevant experience in equivalent mental health setting together with relevant short courses
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant clinical/healthcare qualification e.g. • Degree in relevant health science (e.g. Psychology or equivalent.) or • Foundation Degree Health and Social Science

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience working within health or social care
  • Experience of working as part of a team
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working in the community with mental health
  • Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Knowledge, Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing at all levels including with patients, carers, and MDT members/Trust employees
  • Knowledge of and skills in psychological interventions or willingness to develop
  • Ability to take on and complete delegated tasks in accordance with the competency framework
  • To be able to demonstrate understanding and knowledge of recovery focused interventions
  • To be able to demonstrate skills in promoting patient engagement in individual and group interventions
  • Able to work under pressure
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable understanding of a Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act

Personal attributes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to travel across sites in good time, and deliver the required number of interventions per day
  • Fit to undertake any duties related to the role including physical interventions for the management of violence and aggression
