Job overview
As the pharmacist in charge you will be responsible for the provision and delivery of an integrated, safe, legal, high quality prison pharmaceutical service ,. You will lead and manage the pharmacy team working closely with the Head of Healthcare, GP, patients, prison partners and the multidisciplinary healthcare team to develop the service.Ìý
There may also be a requirement to work within the in-house pharmacies and healthcare departments within the North East cluster to provide cover and services where required.

Main duties of the job
You will be a qualified Registered Pharmacist- BSc or Master’s Degree in Pharmacy, holding registration with the general Pharmaceutical Council. You will have a real passion for prison pharmacy and working with others.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!
Experience of working in a secure environment would be beneficial but not essential
You will be responsible for ensuring that the provision of service meets the contractual obligations. The role will also include reviewing safe systems of working and controlled drug processes ,developing pharmacist led clinics and medicines reviews ,responsibility for providing daily expert advice on pharmaceutical matters and ensuring that a safe but modern medicines management service is provided to our patients.

Education and Training
Essential criteria
- Minimum Bachelor or Masters ( BPharm or MPharm) Degree in Pharmacy and further relevant post-graduate qualifications.
- Evidence of relevant continuing professional development.
- Undertaken training for clinical therapeutics to specialist level e.g. National Prescribing Centre therapeutic training.
- Pharmacist, registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
Desirable criteria
- Non-medical prescribing qualification (or willing to undertake study).
- Experience of non-medical prescribing.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Minimum five years post-registration experience in hospital pharmacy or community pharmacy.
- Experience of working within primary care.
- Experience of leading and implementing change within a health setting.
- Proven experience of planning, organising a broad range of complex activities in line with strategic plans.
- Training in Microsoft Office e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
- Proven experience of provision, collection, analysis, processing synthesis and communicating highly complex data.
- Experience of leading and developing clinical audit and research.
