Job overview

Do you have the skills and enthusiasm for working in a rehabilitation setting? A vacancy has arisen in our Specialist Rehabilitation team.Ìý This rewarding role is ideal if you have a passion for supporting people on their rehab' journey. Working as a Therapy Assistant, you would be providing essential support for Therapists and playing an important part in our Stroke and Neuro' rehabilitation service. This exciting role will be shared between working on the Acute Stroke & Rehab' Ward and the Neuro-Outpatient, Amputees and AIRE Unit Team.

Main duties of the job

Generic Therapy Assistants support service areas to assess, plan and implement a range of interventions to improve the functional ability and well-being of individuals and/or groups. The post holder will be responsible for activities delegated to them and will work without direct supervision but will have immediate access to a clinician for advice and direction as required. Generic Assistants are expected to continually improve their knowledge and skills and work collaboratively with therapy and dietetic colleagues to enhance patient care.

Working for our organisation

Therapy Services consists of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Dietitians, assistants and administration staff. Therapy and dietetic teams work with people of all ages and in a wide range of settings including the hospital, outpatient clinics, people’s homes, and schools.

We are always looking for enterprising and innovative approaches to the way we provide our services. We are a national centre for telemedicine and introduced telehealth to the UK offender healthcare sector and also provide the service to patients in their care homes. Community matters to us and we are supported by 400 dedicated volunteers and have strong links with Bradford University, Craven College and Leeds City College to ensure we inspire the workforce of the future.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will:
• Ìý ÌýManage a caseload delegated by clinicians
• Ìý ÌýIndependently undertake basic assessments and interventions relevant to delegated caseloadÌý
• Ìý ÌýContribute to the evaluation of programmes and patient’s progression making minor alterations in consultation with the therapist/dietitian.
• Ìý ÌýSupport therapists/dietitians with complex cases as required
• Ìý ÌýWork with team members to ensure the effective functioning of the team
• Ìý ÌýWork in partnership with patients, carers, the multi disciplinary team and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
• Ìý ÌýParticipate in activities to improve the service area
• Ìý ÌýWork flexibly according to patient and service needs

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good general level of education including GCSEs in English and Maths
  • Relevant Level III QCF qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • 4 GCSEs Grade A - D
  • Completed courses relevant to therapy and /or dietetics
  • ECDL or formal qualifications in word processing and spreadsheets

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in health care, social care or education
  • Experience of working with people with a range of health needs
  • Experience of carrying out therapeutic interventions
  • Experience of working in a team
  • Experience in use of IT applications
Desirable criteria
  • Recent experience of working in therapy or dietetic services
