We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as Clinical Safety Officer (CSO). The role will undertake CSO duties on behalf of member organisations: Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust and BSW ICB.
The Clinical Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that any IT deployments within member organisations are carried out in a way that ensures that any clinical risks to patient safety are identified, managed and documented. This includes new deployments and any changes to the systems being used.
The purpose of this role is to act as a Clinical Safety Officer (CSO) coordinating and carrying out clinical safety activities associated with IT health systems across the organisations.
The CSO will effectively plan over long medium and short term and develop strategic plans and will be involved in a number of transformative projects in support of the Clinical Strategy, providing oversight of clinical safety and ensuring that clinical risk is managed effectively.
The CSO will ensure that safety is maintained throughout the life cycle of the digital transformation projects. In doing so, the CSO will ensure the Trusts is compliant with the NHS clinical risk management DCB0160 standard - deployment and use of health IT systems.
Main duties of the job
This is an exciting opportunity to develop skills relating to Digital Health. It is a developing specialism within the organisations, and so it is recognized that clinicians may not have specific training in this area.
For the right candidate, the Trust will invest in training to support this role. The role will be supported by Chief Clinical Information Officers and Chief Nursing Information Officers who have all undertaken CSO training.
Responsible for aligning and implementing the clinical risk management processes and procedures across AHA in accordance with the relevant NHS guidelines.
Ability to effectively plan over long medium and short-term and develop strategic plans.
It will involve the post holder in a number of transformative projects in support of the Clinical Strategy, providing oversight of clinical safety and ensuring that clinical risk is managed effectively.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Post Grad diploma or equivalent experience
- Current registration with an appropriate professional body (e.g. Medical, Nursing, Allied Health Professional or Social Care)
Desirable criteria
- Attended clinical safety training for Health IT or hold Master Modules in Patient Safety (Training will be arranged if the successful candidate does not already meet this requirement)
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience as a clinician or other medical practitioner
- Experience of working with clinicians, managers and other stakeholders outside of the immediate working environment.
- In-depth understanding of the ways in which healthcare professionals use information in support of patient care.
- Experience of successful partnership working and MDT building
- Advanced keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
- Experience of delivering improvement and ensuring patient safety through changes in clinical systems
- Experience of change management and service redesign.
- Experience of involvement in the specification, development, or implementation of information systems
