Job overview

Are you a motivated, dynamic and inspirational experienced Midwife and  passionate about delivering high quality maternity care?  If yes, we have a fantastic opportunity for you to join our dedicated perinatal team. 

We are seeking midwives to join our fantastic and hardworking team as a Senior Midwife in Delivery Suite and supporting across our inpatient services. You will work in a supportive environment where our perinatal  teams work closely to provide high quality service that meets the individual needs of mothers, birthing people and their babies.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have continuing responsibility for a defined caseload/team including appropriate management of resources and contributory responsibility for a defined budget.  They will provide effective midwifery leadership in a multidisciplinary team. The position provides a specialist clinical role in addition to the management of operational issues and the provision of expert health advice.  Essentially this will incorporate the provision of care to patients and their families in accordance with the philosophy and standards of care within the area, ensuring that values and beliefs are upheld.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate:

• A clear understanding of the role of the Labour Ward coordinator
• excellent leadership skills
• a sound knowledge base around Safeguarding
• Be confident in facilitating evidence based Intrapartum care and supporting other staff members to provide high quality care
• Be proficient in providing to support junior staff with regards to relevant clinical skills such as perineal suturing, cannulation, theatre role, management of emergency situations and management of high risk pregnancies as well as promotion of a positive birth experience.
• The ability to effectively and safely co-ordinate Delivery Suite, Maternity theatres and Maternity Unit (out of hours).
• The ability to safely manage maternity services operation out of hours in the absence of the Midwifery Matron
• Staff management skills.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Current NMC registration
  • Registered/Practising Midwife
  • Mentorship/Preceptorship trained
  • Maintain portfolio and PREPP requirements
  • ALSO course or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
  • Educated to Degree Level or evidence of working towards

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of Professional development
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and audit
  • Child Protection training
Desirable criteria
  • Recognised management study
  • Recognised leadership training
  • Intrapartum care experience including shift management

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Substantial midwifery experience including Intrapartum care in a high risk environment
  • Recent experience of leading a team
  • Knowledge of midwifery issues in the wider content of the NHS
  • Knowledge of statutory supervision
  • Evidence of up to date current midwifery skills and competencies including perineal suturing, cannulation, intravenous medications and care of epidural, PCA, scrub midwife role
Desirable criteria
  • Experience/additional training of HDU/High risk midwifery care
  • The ability to write clear and concise reports
  • The ability to prepare and deliver presentations to a group of people
