Job overview

We are looking for a motivated person who loves working with children and young people, to join our dynamic and friendly Occupational Therapy team.

As an Occupational Therapy Technician,Ìý you will be workingÌý in a variety of settings such as clinics, schools, early years settings and within children's own homes, helping children and young people develop independence and functional skills to meet their physical potential.

You will be based in Weston-Super-Mare within the North Somerset Integrated Therapy team, and as part of the BNSSG wide service.

To carry out this role you will be required to travel across sites so would benefit from holding a valid drivers licence and have access to a vehicle that can be used for work.

Please note this is a part time position for 15 hours per week.Ìý

Main duties of the job

The main duties of the role will be to work directly with children and young people to carry out therapy programmes which have been set out by the Occupational therapists;Ìýsuch as self-care skills, fine and gross motor tasks and play skills.

You will be be involved in supporting therapists in specialist equipment assessments, maintain and administer equipment as well as assisting with clinics.Ìý

ÌýYou will be required to record your work in the child's medical records and report back to the therapists.

There will be the need to make some resources, manage stock, and clinic space and support the set up and running of clinics.

You will be expected to attend regular supervision and training but will need to be able to work autonomously.

You will need to have good communication skills while working with children and families and with education and health colleagues.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Awareness and Understanding Occupational Therapy
  • To be able to engage with children and motivate them to participate actively in their therapy programme when appropriate
  • To be able to use IT for key team functions (e.g. MS Outlook, MS Teams, Excel) as well as specific clinical related uses as required
Desirable criteria
  • Prior Experience as a Therapy Technician
  • Experience of working with children and young people presenting with difficulties in the areas of physical movement, fine motor activities, communication, social communication and activities of daily living, (or any combination of these) and their families.
  • Experience of working in a Multi-disciplinary Team

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Recognised childcare / health care / social care qualification at NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification or experience
Desirable criteria
  • Training in child development
