We are looking to recruit two forward thinking, Pharmacy Assistants, based in the Integrated Health Community (IHC) for the East area of BCUHB. These exciting new roles will involve working within the Primary Care and Community services team and the wider IHC, supporting a team of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians in the community hospitals and GP practices, to manage medicine supplies, help ensure patients safety and improve patient outcomes. You will need to be motivated, and passionate about patient care, be able to move between bases and have excellent communication skills to work with healthcare teams across the locality.
These are exciting new roles for the Integrated Health Community East BCUHB. Working closely with acute sector, primary care and community pharmacy colleagues and based in the Community Services Team the focus of the roles will be to manage the medicines supplies (both acutely and ongoing) for the patients in East community hospitals.
Main duties of the job
This is a higher-level Pharmacy Assistant role and will be ideal for a person looking to develop their skills and knowledge within an exciting and constantly developing area of pharmacy.听
The main duties within this role include:
- Assemble and dispense in-patient, outpatient and take home medication and to process controlled drug requisitions, following standard dispensary operating procedures. Competency based training will be given. Participate in the ward based medicines management service, assessing patients own medicines, and organising supplies.
- Support the Pharmacy Logistics Service in providing safe, effective and efficient pharmacy purchasing and distribution services.
- Working within Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and be guided by professional good practice guidelines.
- Working as part of a team and work independently, using own initiative to deal with routine enquiries e.g availability and supply of medicines to wards, or patients, referring to the Pharmacy Technician or a Pharmacist if necessary.
Weekend and Bank Holiday working on a rota basis will be required as part of the standard working hours. As an organisation, we promote flexible working to support staff wellbeing and the needs of the service.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- GCSE maths and English language to Grade C or equivalent NVQ Level 2 (relevant units) in Pharmacy Service Skills/Pharmaceutical Sciences or equivalent or gain in agreed timeframe
- Skills , knowledge and experience equivalent to level 3 NVQ or gain in agreed timeframe
- Good numeracy and literacy skills including; calculations, percentages, decimal, fractions.
- Basic knowledge of the functions of the NHS.
Desirable criteria
- Current knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice.
- Good knowledge of drug stock management or stock control
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working experience in Pharmacy and Dispensing
Desirable criteria
- Working experience in Hospital Pharmacy.
- Working experience in Hospital ward.
Aptitude and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Practical ability
- Attention to detail
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to communicate with patients
- Basic IT skills (e.g. accurate data input).
- Able to undertake simple arithmetical calculations without a calculator.

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
