Main duties of the job

Working within the perioperative care department you will be supporting the surgical pre-assessment and the perioperative medicine team by co-ordinating patients through their pre-operative journey in the lead up to surgery, liaising with multi-disciplinary teams in the process. The department is busy and will see approx. 9000 patients a year with around 30,000 outpatient appointments. You will have line management responsibility of band 2 members of the administration team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Your main duties will include:
Support with the administrative needs of the service including booking and outcoming appointments, scanning, telephone calls and also support with training new starters in the department.

Line manage several perioperative care administrators and be responsible for their appraisals and sickness reviews. Support with the MDT and liaise with multi-disciplinary teams to co-ordinate patient care. Support the project manager in the administrative developments in the service.Ìý

We are looking for someone who has experience with leadership within a team and a background in administration. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office and be confident speaking to a number of stakeholders. Ìý

You will be supported to work flexibly with a combination of on site and home working. Our core working hours are Monday-Friday 8-4.Ìý

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent experience e.g. good knowledge across a range of administrative work procedures including non-routine elements
  • Educated to GCSE (or equivalent) standard, with a pass in English and Maths
  • Experience of administration in a customer- focused environment
  • Experience of dealing with non-routine and complex problems, progress chasing, resource and staff allocation
  • Ability to compose correspondence from fragmented instructions
  • Experience in delivering training sessions
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience of working in an acute hospital setting
  • Competent in the use of ESR and Healthroster
  • Supervisory or office management experience
